Abstract : Achieving a nanodevice is a non-linear path. It is common that the end product concept is very far from your initial idea, or that a solution found during the development process yields a device for a completely different application. Our objective, at the Materials and Low Temperature Laboratory, at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil), is to achieve versatile know-how about spintronics nanodevices, based on magnetic nanowires. Two main approaches are currently tested. From one side, we are investigating the possibilities of a maskless direct nanowriting technique (Focused-electron-beam-induced deposition, FEBID) to create individual nanowires. Their composition, a granular mix of transition metals and carbon, yields interesting electrical and magnetotransport behavior. On the other side, we are testing the idea of first growing a (thousands of) cylindrical nanowire, that will later be incorporated in a device through nanomanipulation. We chose to focus on helimagnetic materials, which can exhibit a stable skyrmion phase. In this case, the dimensionality reduction is expected to modifiy the phase stability conditions.
