Titre : Group theory and invariants method applied to nanosystems.

Résumé: The aim of the two seminars is to provide a brief introduction to the formalism of the group theory and the theory of representations as well as to give some examples of applications of group theory methods in the physics of nanosystems.
Tentative plan of the seminars:
1. Introduction to the theory of groups
2. Representations of groups
3. Phenomenological analysis of the relations between macroscopic quantities. Applications to gyrotropy of semiconductors and photogalvanic effects
4. Method of invariants. Derivation of effective Hamiltonian from the symmetry arguments.
5. Examples: spin-dependent k-linear terms in semiconductor quantum wells, Zeeman effect in trigonal quantum dots, effective Hamiltonian for electrons in graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides (e.g. MoS2).
